Bee Swarm

Why do bees swarm?

At around lunchtime, there was a sudden swarm of bees around one of the teachers; Mr Marsh's science room. Out in the garden, just outside of his room, was a large swarm of bees, where there was a hive down on a rosebush.

Overcrowding and blockage in the nest are factors which make colonies vulnerable to swarm. The presence of an old queen and a mild winter also give to the growth of the swarming instinct, or the start of spring.
