Jenn’s head began to throb, her legs hooked tightly for dear life around the metal hot pink pole. Her friend stared up at her, sitting on the next part on top, watching her as Jenn’s face began to go red, sweat trickling down her forehead, or up her forehead in the sense of her being upside down. She focused her eyes on the other kids that ran wildly around the slides, climbing up the yellow objects before skidding back down, screams echoing throughout the large playground. The tangy taste of copper built up against her tongue, she would faint if she hung from the monkey bars any longer. Sarah was freaking out, “Geez, Jenn, are you done yet? Or are you dead or something?” Jenn laughed a little, which felt weird from the gravity that was pulling her face down into the depths of the dirt, or at least it felt like that. Finally, after a full 7 minutes, Jenn flipped up, her breath coming out in short, ragged breaths as she continued to laugh at Sarah who almost fell off of the monkey bars herself, “What the- 7 MINUTES? How do you last 7 minutes?! No wonder you’re a champ swimmer, you probably barely breathe!!”
If it wasn’t for the kids that were screaming down below them and around the rest of the play area, Jenn would’ve heard Sarah’s voice strain and crack out of both fear and shame that she just got beaten by 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Jenn ran a hand through her silky dark golden brown hair, shaking her head, “Maybe if you weren’t so lazy, you could practice and actually become better.”
“Would you quit showing me up and come with me to the swings? Seriously, let’s leave the monkey bars and get some wind rushing through our hair!” Sarah declared, clasping her hands around the bar and swinging down to the barky ground. Jenn followed, as they both sprinted towards the empty swings at the outside. The grass was wet between their feet as they both plopped onto a swing each, the swing making a creak from the weight, which Jenn was quite surprised she could hear, but then again, the kids were on the other side.
