Girls' Self Defense

"Your body is yours only."

Self defense is really, really fun and informs us a lot about the things we can do to protect ourselves from things like sexual abuse or anything relating to that. We learnt where to hit the most, for the sensitive spots and where it would make the assaulter go down giving us enough time to get out of there and get help. I really enjoyed going to self defense and had a lot of fun ((mainly punching things and playing a game)) though unfortunately, on Monday where everyone else of the girls had gone to self defense, I was sick and couldn't learn as much as them from what they did on day 1. I did, however, know how to do it and it pained and annoyed me when people kept trying to remind me of what to do, but I kinda understand, I guess.

Unlike everyone else, I didn't get a certificate which I don't mind and completely understand because the other girls had done the full session and deserved it themselves when I only learnt a minority in 20 minutes. As much as I would've liked to find out what the other girls did on Monday, I didn't care and thought it was just a great experience to be there to hear about the things that happen and how something so great could go wrong.

Ellie, our instructor GSD, told us stories of stuff that happened over the world and what happened to people, told us about how a DNA from a guy in any way means a lot in this situation. How things at home that wouldn't really be expected to be used as a defense weapon such as combs, brushes, pencils and even deodorant. She also told us about how the suicide rate, because of this, is way more than over the average for car crashes. And out of all that, there were 6 suicides of kids from the age 10 - 14. She taught us a lot about the weak spots of a boy and how that would benefit us from getting away from them.

I loved self defense and thought it was fun, but while we were practicing what are called hammer punches on someone who held a punching bag.. Thing, I was super scared of breaking their fingers and everyone else was getting really sore hands from it. I never got to hold it, lucky for me, my hands are still safe and unbroken. -Unbroken by Stan Walker plays in the distance-
