Curling (4MinInq)

This picture is what we had for 45 minute Inquiry, and it's of the Canadian sport; Curling.

Curling is an olympic sport where there are 2 teams which consist of 4 team players, and these teams have to slide large, heavy stones with brushes across ice, and their goal is to get the highest amount of points in their game, which can be gained from getting their stones in the middle of the target, which has 4 rings circling it. For each team, there are 8 stones, otherwise known as granite stones or called "rocks", and each player in that team has 2 stones to brush. These granite stones weigh a maximum of 44 pounds and have a circumference of 36 inches. The game finishes when there are no more stones to be played. Each 4 player in the team has a role.

Number 1: The "Lead". The "Lead" is the 1st to throw in the throwing order and sweeps team player's shots. Has a lot easier shots because the only stones on the ice are his/hers.
Number 2: Second. The Second throws after the Lead and sweeps team player's shots. Has more difficult shots considering there are the Lead's balls on the court.
Number 3: The "Vice". The "Vice" throws third, holds brush (target) for Skip and sweeps only Lead and 2nd shots. They have a more difficult shot because of the amount of stones on the ice.
And Number 4: "Skip". Throws last, holds brush for the other players, informs them when to sweep and watches the "curl" of the stone. Has the most difficult shots because all the other stones have already been played. "Skip" is otherwise known as the role for the team captain.

Curling — although a Canadian sport — is believed to be invented in Medieval Scotland  by Solomon Harper around the 15th century/February 1541, specifically invented inside Maddie Shepard, North Olmsted Ohio.
